Our Favourite Autumn Baby Activities
Autumn is starting to show signs! The crunchy leaves, cosy jumpers and that fresh, crisp air. It’s such a gorgeous season to get out and about with your little one, and there are so many simple autumn baby activities you can do together that are fun and help your baby’s development.
At Mini Magoos Cheshire West, we’re kicking off our Autumn Term with one of our yearly favourites, our big autumn themed class! It’s always such a magical way to start the season, with all the colours, textures and sensory fun that autumn brings. While you wait for class, here are some easy autumn sensory play and baby outdoor play ideas you can try at home or on your walks.
Why Babies Love Autumn Play
Babies learn through their senses: touching, tasting, looking, listening, smelling. Every time your little one crunches a leaf, feels the inside of a pumpkin or splashes in a puddle, their brain is working overtime making new connections.
It’s not just about fun. Sensory play helps with motor skills, language, and even emotional regulation. And autumn is packed full of natural sensory opportunities. If you fancy finding out a little more, here’s a great read on the benefits of sensory play.
That’s exactly why our baby classes in Cheshire, in Northwich, Winsford, Tarporley and Frodsham, weave the seasons into every session. Babies get all the benefits of sensory play, plus the joy of trying new seasonal activities in a safe and structured way.
Fun Autumn Ideas to Try
Here are some of our favourite autumn baby activities and baby outdoor play ideas this season:
🍁 Go on a Leaf Walk
Pop to the park or woods and let your baby touch, hold and scrunch the leaves. Chat about the colours, red, orange, yellow, and listen to the crunchy sounds. It’s one of the simplest but most effective forms of baby outdoor play.
🎃 Pumpkin Fun
Head to a pumpkin patch (or grab a small one from the shop). Cut it open and let your baby explore the squishy, slimy seeds and soft flesh. Messy? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely!
✨ Top tip: Scoop out some pumpkin seeds and pop them into a clear zip-lock bag (a splat pack). Seal it up and let your baby squish and squeeze to their heart’s content, all the fun but none of the mess. This makes for a brilliant no-mess version of autumn sensory play.
🪵 Bring Autumn Indoors
If the weather’s too wild, make a little sensory tray at home. Pop in dry leaves, pine cones or soft autumn fabrics. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or apple for some lovely seasonal smells. Always supervise, but let your baby explore at their own pace. Indoor autumn baby activities can be just as exciting as outdoor ones.
